Tony Touch – Target Practice

In the late 90′s Tony Touch had already earned a name for himself with his famous “50 MC’s” mix tapes. He later would release full-length albums featuring him rapping. However, before those came out, he decided to test the waters in 1998 with The Rican-Struction EP. The EP contained 4 tracks and their instrumentals. With his connections he got some decent production by PF Cuttin and DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill. “Target Practice” produced by DJ Muggs sampled the Nick Ingman track “Tense Preparation“.

This Ingman track is from the same KPM sound library as “Under Pressure“. For some additional info on Nick Ingman, check out this earlier post. Also worth noting that this track contains some small drum loops ready for sampling.

DJ Muggs interview with Fuse

New interview from Fuse with legendary west coast producer DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill / Soul Assassins. Muggs discusses his 15,000 record collection, pulling out favorites that he’s sampled, got the party started with, or just collects out of the love for hip-hop and digging. Check it out.

Rita Jean Bodine the Drum Machine

I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about Rita Jean Bodine. The album “Sitting on Top of My World” has a bluesy/soulful feel to it. One thing I will say about her is that her voice is beyond raspy.

One of my regular dealers told me to cop this record cause it had a hot drum break. The track “Pacified” is the cut which was also used for Cypress Hill’s “Killafornia“.
